A robber armed with a large kitchen knife has hit an Orange County bank for a third time, authorities said.
The armed robber, now referred to as the “$5K Bandit”, has struck again. The robber has hit an Orange County Bank for a third time. The robber has the nickname “5K Bandit” because he demanded $5,000 during one of the earlier robberies.
His choice of weapon was a kitchen knife and with it he threatened a teller during the hold up. Authorities believe the bandit used a similar knife during two robberies at the same bank branch on June 21, 2011, and June 30, 2012 and is also believed to be tied to robberies at a Bank of the West branch in Cerritos on July 26, 2010, and August 9, 2011.
When officers arrived at the Orange county bank they detained a man that fit the robber’s description but that man was later released.
The “5K Bandit” remains at large and when he is caught he will face charges of armed robbery which has the potential of resulting in long term imprisonment.
